The “Quality Enhancement Plan,” as it is descriptively but unimaginatively called, has been in the works for several years now, but implementation begins this year and will last through 2022. The point is to bolster and promote applied research — the type of projects top students would be attracted to and that provide experiences that will help students get jobs. Reams, Ph.D., a teacher, psychologist and associate director of counseling services at Trinity University who specializes in sexual orientation and the development of sexual identity, discusses his website and its comprehensive seven-step guide to sexual orientation and identity based on a course he’s taught since 2004. The Centre College Bonner Program, and three of its students, were recognized with a 2016-17 Inspiring Service Award. The Bonner Program also earned the Ruby Award for 22,9000-plus hours of service during the school year. More.

Beginning in the fall, registered nurses working full time will have an opportunity to complete their RN-BSN coursework online at the University of Pikeville. This fully online program is the first of its kind to be offered at UPIKE. More.

For the first time in the 95-year history of the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) more than 700 teams have received Scholar All-America recognition. In Division III, the University of the Ozarks led the way with a 3.71 cumulative GPA, tying Vassar College and just ahead of Cal Tech. Other APCU schools receiving Scholar All-America recognition included Arcadia University, Davis & Elkins College (Div II.), Trinity University, Westminster College (PA), and Whitworth University.  More.

The College of Idaho’s Community Learning program will expand this year with the Executive Management Series, a new selection of courses and workshops dedicated toward developing leadership skills within local businesses, from rising young supervisors to experienced business leaders. More.

Waynesburg University will be hosting a week-long STEAM camp focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics from July 16 through July 20. The camp, sponsored by Chevron, will include an engineering and technology session and a science on social media session. More.

The University of Tulsa once again joins the fight to end Alzheimer's as the Alzheimer's Awareness Game for Tulsa football has been set for Saturday, September 23, when the Golden Hurricane hosts non-conference foe New Mexico at H.A. Chapman Stadium. More.

Lieutenant General Samuel V. Wilson, U.S. Army (Retired), who served as Hampden-Sydney College’s president from 1992 to 2000, passed away on June 10th at his home in Rice, Va. He was 93.  As president of Hampden-Sydney, Gen. Wilson guided the College out of a period of uncertainty with energetic, visible, and steady leadership. More.

It is not new that the number of college students who say they are facing mental- and emotional-health troubles has been steadily growing. What is new is that colleges and universities are increasingly focused on trying to understand, through rigorous research, what interventions work best and for the broadest swath of students. More.

A recently opened, state-of-the-art Fitness Center at Blackburn College has quickly become a centerpiece of campus life. The facility, located in the Woodward Center adjacent to Dawes Gymnasium, is a 6,000-square-foot area with weightlifting, power cages, free weights, and selectorized weight machines. The Southern States Athletic Conference Board of Presidents unanimously approved the addition of Stillman College and Florida College effective July 1, 2018, with competition to begin in all sports during the 2018-19 academic year. They will give the SSAC 12 members in 2018-19. More.

Arcadia University named a former U.S. senator and college president in Colorado as its interim president, effective July 1. George Hanks “Hank” Brown, 77, former president of the University of Colorado, will lead the Glenside-based school as it continues a national search for its next president.
