Two upgraded study rooms, a new book scanner and improved access to the three librarian offices off the Information Technology Services (ITS) hallway are all coming to Armacost Library this school year courtesy of a $20,000 grant from the Presbyterian Mission Agency of the Presbyterian Church USA. Missouri Valley College alumni, students and friends were recently joined by the Marshall Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the Walker C. Fletcher Athletic Complex. The 28,000 square foot facility, features a new strength and conditioning room, a wrestling practice facility, new office space, new locker rooms, and a new athletic training facility. More.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded The College of Wooster a grant of approximately $325,000 to research the function of a protein that male mosquitoes transfer to females in their seminal fluid in a species that transmits viruses, including dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever, the NIH recently announced. Buena Vista University has won a prestigious grant to advance programming aimed at facilitating business transitions across Iowa. This project pairs retiring business owners with up-and-coming business operators throughout Iowa and provides mentoring and educational support to new entrepreneurs from succession match to new launch. Stillman College is kicking off the school year with a new way to help autistic students. The college teamed up with Arts ‘n Autism to help give students with autism a chance to not only get a college education but have their aids in the classes with them. More.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will deliver Rhodes College’s annual Constitution Day lecture on October 3. Justice Breyer was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Clinton in 1994. He was born in San Francisco and is a graduate of Stanford, Oxford, and Harvard Law School. More.

Hastings College students have been in class for a little more than a week now, and are getting use to more than just school schedules. The school started a new initiative this fall semester that includes the incorporation of technology into classes, a new academic calendar and curriculum. More.

For the last 29 years, the folks at Warren Wilson College have given back to the community by volunteering their time and talents. For this year's Service Day, 23 different locations across Buncombe County saw 370 students, staff, and faculty start the school year off by volunteering. More.

Dr. Jeff Rutenbeck has joined Arcadia as provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs. An expert in communication and digital media studies, previously served as dean of the School of Communication at American University in Washington, D.C., where he oversaw four academic divisions: Journalism, Public Communication, Film and Media Arts, and Communication Studies.
